While sailing, it is possible that players may encounter hostile pirates which may initiate combat.

Click the ship you want to engage in battle with.
If this icon appears

This icon 
indicates that it is the admiral's fleet. Reducing the ships durability or sailors to 0 will result in victory even if the other fleet members are still able to fight.
If you win the battle, you will gain combat experience, fame, and items.

Fleeing toward the edge of the combat ring, and reaching the outside area, prematurely terminates a sea battle.
If you lose a fight at sea, you will become incapacitated and shipwrecked, losing in melee battle will have some of your possessions plundered.
Click the ship wreck icon to restore your ship depending on your level you may receive penalties in doing so.
Bank insurance will reimburse your lost Ducats depending on what grade you have selected
Using the 'Rescue' skill will restore your ship and fleet members in place and prevents loss of cargo and equipment.
